Early History of East Opolis, Missouri

East Opolis is located in the extreme northwest part of Jasper County. It was founded in April 1881 and is actually part of Opolis, Kansas but is situated on the Missouri side of the state. The town had a drugstore, two saloons, a lumberyard and many dwellings. The main street is on the line between Kansas and Missouri and was called State Line Street. On the west side was Opolis, Kansas and the east side was Opolis, Missouri. The west side was originally called State Line City but the small hotel was a major part of the city and it was destroyed by a cyclone. Later both sides had business' and a population of about 200 people each.
