Will of Isabelle Jane (Swisher) Rawles
Isabelle's obituary reads she came to Carthage, MO, with her mother in 1868 from Lewisberg,
PA. Another small obituary appears in the Joplin Globe, April 13, 1937. She died at age 87 and
is buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Carthage. The 1900 census indicates they had a servant named
Anna Denile. A copy of her will is on file in the Jasper County, MO, courthouse and reads as
follows:
"I, Belle Rawles, of Carthage, Missouri, being of sound mind and memory do hereby make this my
las Will, hereby revoking any former Will be me made heretofore. First: I request that all my
just debts be paid out of my estate by my executor hereinafter mentioned. Second: I request that
all property both real and personal owned by me at the time of my death be sold and the proceeds
be equally divided between my sons and daughters and grandchildren the daughters of my deceased
son Charles Winfield Rawles as follows: one eighth to my daughter Clara B. Hines: one eighth to
my daughter Lois C. Snyder: one eighth to my son Homer W. Rawles: one eighth to my son Elwood J.
Rawles: one eighth to my son John A. Rawles: one eighth to my son Fred A. Rawles: one eighth to
my son Frank S. Rawles and one eighth to be equally divided between the daughters of my deceased
son Charles Windfield Rawles, Ruth, Fern and Oma Rawles. Third: I hereby appoint my daughters
Clara B. Hines and Lois C. Snyder the executrixes of this my last Will and request that they be
not required to give bond to act as such or answer to any Court of Law. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I
have hereunto set my hand to this my last Will, this the 19th day of May, 1930. Mrs. Bell Rawles.
She also had several codicils to her Will on file in Jasper Co. Lived at 508 Pine.
