Some good census substitutes are tax records, city directories, plat maps and voting registers.
Tax records are available at the Jasper County Archives. Family Search has some tax and land records. The Curtis Laws Wilson Library at Missouri S&T has the Jasper County 1861 Tax Assessment List and the 1864 Tax Book. The records that we have available are listed on the left.
Joplin Genealogical Society and the Webb City Genealogical Society have a number of directories
for Jasper County. Boston University and the Boston Public Library also have several years available in book form and microfilm.
