Early History of Neck City, Missouri

Neck City is located between two streams that parallel for about five miles before they broaden out, and at one point they came close together and formed a neck. Families settled here and they would have fights and brawls and the territory became known as "Hell's Neck". When application for a post office was made in 1899, they had to drop the Hell and is known now as Neck City. At one time the mines at Neck City averaged $7000 a month. It had stores, saloons and a post office. There was a big ore strike in November of 1910. People still live in the town, but the businesses are gone although they still maintain a post office.
