Oronogo was platted in 1856 and called Minersville. When an addition was made to the town in 1872; Oronogo, became the revised name. One legend says that in early days miners and traders bartered for provisions and when they asked for credit they were told cash or ore and the saying "ore or no go" was the way that Oronogo became the name of the town.
