Waco is located in the northwest portion of Twin Grove township.
Waco was on the Girard and Joplin branch of the Frisco Railroad. The town was first called
Loshick and was changed by the people of Waco when they petitioned for a post office. It had
a grocery store, a drug store, two blacksmith shops, one wagon shop, a meat market and a school.
It was a very important shipping point for shipping wheat, oats, corn, cattle and hogs to distant
markets yearly.
Waco was established sometime before June 6, 1857. According to an orginial
abstract of a piece of property which states that is was deeded to a soldier
by President Buchanan on June 6,1857. It clearly states where the property
lies in relation to Davidson's Second Addition in Waco. So when was Waco
established and laid out? Anyone with information please email Renessa.
We have had an update.
