Two Physicians Have a Narrow Escape at Webb City
Dr. S. A. Grantham, of Joplin, and Dr. B. M. Henry, of Alba. Get Out of Accident Very Luckliy
Special by Telephone to the Press
Webb City, May 1.--A serious accident and perhaps death was avoided narrowly here today by Drs. S. A. Grantham, of Joplin and B. M. Henry, of Alba, when Dr. Grantham's automobile was struck by an Alba-bound car, as they were crossing the track on South Oronogo street. The car was badly injured, but both men escaped, Dr. Henry with a few hurts and Dr. Grantham unscathed. At the time both men were enroute to Alba. After the accident the auto which was a runabout, was carted to one side of the road and the two physicians boarded the car which hit them and proceeded to their destination.

Eighth Street Castle, a Department Store Demolished and Clarketon Hotel Somewhat Damaged. Special by Telephone to the Press.
Joplin, April 29.--Fire of an unknown origin, Saturday night, which began in the basement of the Eighth Street Castle, a dry goods store, located in the Clarketon hotel annex, spread to the hotel appartments upstairs and to the Joplin Stove company rooms next door causing a total damage of $70,000, about one half of which is covered by insurance. The part of the hotel annex which fronts on Eight street and seventy five feet on Main street, were completely gutted by fire. J. B. Milum, who owned the stock in the Eight Street Castle, said this morning that his loss was about $30,000, on which he had about $15,000 insurance. The damage to the hotel proper is placed at $4,000.
