TEN YEARS AGO TODAY
Jasper King, residing six miles west of Carthage, came near drowning and lost a pocketbook containing $540 in currency when a buggy in which he was riding overturned while a crossing of Pleasant Valley branch was being attempted. Mr. King was accompanied by his son-in-law, John Treadway. Treadway leaped clear of the buggy when it was overturned, but Mr. King became entangled and later was rescued by Treadway in an unconscious condition. He soon regained consciousness but found that his purse was gone, apparently having floated out of his pocket and down stream. A diligent search failed to locate it.
